About Heartworms & Deworming Services

It can be challenging to determine when and which kind of dewormers are necessary because there are many different parasites that can affect dogs and cats. Typically, intestinal parasites are acquired from eating infected wildlife, breastfeeding from an infected mother, ingesting worm eggs from the environment, or in pregnancy when an infected mother is expecting. Common intestinal parasites include whipworms, hookworms, and roundworms. A fecal sample is used to diagnose them in order to detect particular eggs that are unique to each variety of worm. Customers frequently mix up intestinal parasites with heartworms. A parasite in the blood, lungs, and heart called heartworm is spread by mosquitoes. A blood sample is used to diagnose the condition by checking for heartworm larvae and adults.

  • Puppies should be dewormed during routine preventative care
  • Keep your pet on heartworm prevention as advised
  • It is advised against purchasing an over-the-counter dewormer if you find worms in your pet's feces.
  • Have a heartworm test performed by a veterinarian at least once each year.

What is a Heartworm?

Infected dogs have heartworms that dwell in their hearts and major pulmonary arteries. Through its bite, a mosquito can pass heartworm larvae to a dog. These larvae were acquired while the mosquito was feeding on an affected dog. The dog’s body is traversed by the transmitted heartworm larvae for six whole months before they eventually establish a home in the heart.

Heartworm Awareness

Please be aware that some parasites, notably hookworms and roundworms, can lead to serious diseases in people, especially in young children. Pick up your dog’s waste from the yard on a regular basis, and daily clean the cat’s litter box. After disposal, properly wash your hands.
